B48 with a factory air-to-air cooler? You may be leaving 20–30 hp on the table
Many B48 owners add a tune and more boost before touching the intercooler. If the first pull feels strong and the second feels flat, the tune is often not the problem.
Most B48 owners start in the wrong place
A tune and more boost come first — the intercooler gets forgotten. The higher the boost, the faster intake temperatures rise. Once they climb, the ECU starts protecting itself, and ignition timing, boost and outright power all suffer.
You may already have the symptom
The first pull feels strong; the second feels noticeably softer. Most people blame the tune or suspect the turbo — quite often it is simply cooling that cannot keep up.
Why the intercooler is the best value step
The SpeedTune B48 intercooler is about making intake temperature stable. The point is not one fast pull — it is staying fast, pull after pull, without fading.
A quick self-test
On a factory air-to-air B48, find a safe stretch and do two full-throttle pulls back to back. If the second one is clearly softer, you already have your answer.
